The Ollie
difficulty = 2
Ok, first off, the ollie is the most basic trick there is. It is
the foundation of your skating. If you can't ollie, forget about
skating. Practically every trick from here on will involve an
ollie. Now that that's over, here's how you do it: You want your
back foor right on the edge of the tail, and your front foot
around the middle of the board. Now here's the tricky part: You
want to bend down, then kick down sharply with your back foot,
and, at the same time, kind of "jump". Now slide your
front foot forward until it reaches the nose. Then you want to
level out the board by putting a little weight on your front
foot. It's hard, and it takes practise, but don't worry: you'll
have it soon enough.
The Shove-It
difficulty = 3
The Shove-It (or varial) is a basic move; it's the second move I
learned how to do, and it's the second move most people know how
to do. You want to start the move in the basic ollie stance. But
this time, when you ollie, you want to swing the nose of the
board in the direction you are facing. ( Clockwise for
regular-foot, counter-clickwise for goofy-foot.) You being an
ollie, but, this time, don't just slide your foot: push the board
with your heel, which will cause it to rotate 180 degrees. Stay
above the board, and land on it with bent knees.
The Kickflip
difficulty = 4
Ah, the kickflip. A bitch to learn, but a great trick once you
master it. You want to start the move in the basic ollie stance,
but this time with your front foot heel slightly hanging off the
edge of the board. This time, when you do an ollie, kick down
sharply with the balls of your feet. This wil cause the board to
do a spin-flip. Stay above the board, and land with bent knees.
(You might want to start training for this move by putting your
back wheels in some sidewalk cracks so your board will not move a
lot.)
Heelflip
difficulty = 5
The heelflip is very similar to the kickflip in that they both
cause the board to flip. You want to start in the ollie position,
but this time with your front foot toes hanging off the edge.
Start an ollie, and kick down hard with your heel. The board will
flip. Stay over it the whole time.
Varial Kickflip
difficulty = 6
The varial kickflip is a combination of a kickflip and a
shove-it. It's tough to learn, but it's a great trick. First,
roll along with your back foot in a shove-it position, while your
front foot is in a kickflip position. Then, kick with your back
foot, as if you were doing a shove-it. Just as the board begins
to rotate, kick with your front foot, as if you were doing a
kickflip. The board should spin both as a shove-it and as a
kickflip. Stay above the board, and stick it!
Varial Heelflip
difficulty = 7
The varial heelflip is an intensly difficult move. It combines
the heelflip with the shove-it. First, roll along with your back
foot in a shove-it position, while your front foot is in a
heelflip position. Then, kick with your back foot, as if you were
doing a shove-it. Just as the board begins to rotate, kick with
your front foot, as if you were doing a heelflip. The board
should spin both as a shove-it and as a heelflip. Stay above the
board, and stick it!
Frontside 180
difficulty = 3
The frontside 180 is a pretty cool move. It can be done off
curbs, stairs, or ramps. You can also add kickflips or shove-its
for an even more spectacular move. To do a 180, roll along in the
standard ollie position. As you begin your ollie, throw your arms
and hips backward. You will spin 180!
Backside 180
difficulty = 4
The backside 180 is very similar to the frontside 180, you just
spin the other way.
Boneless-180-No-Comply
difficulty = 5
You roll forward, normal stance, and reach down on your frontside
with your back hand and grab the middle of the board. from there
you step your front foot off parallel to the board on the
backside, plant, and pick the board up with your hand, keeping
your back foot on, turn the back foot to the front, and then hop
on like an acid drop with your front foot, now in the back. let
go of the board on the way down, and roll away knowing that you
just did a cool-ass-looking old-school trick.
The 360
difficulty = 7
A 360 is when you go around a full time. This is almost
impossible on the flat ground. You might want to try this off a
ramp or curb. To do a 360, get in the regular 180 position, ready
to ollie. Once you start your ollie immediately begin your 180.
Twist your hips in the direction you wish to spin, and hold them
there. Get some big air and keep spinning until you hit the
ground. If you spun fast enough, you'll land the 360.
The Basic Grind
difficulty = 6
A grind is when you slide on something with only your trucks,
grinding them down. (Grind?) To do a grind, roll towards the
object you intend to grind (curb, rail, etc.) facing towards it.
Then ollie at it, but keep your nose forward and keep moving
forward. With some luck, your trucks will land on the rail, and
you will go sliding away. To being to learn to grind, try
building a small grindrail.
The Boardslide
difficulty = 5
A boardslide is when you use the middle of the bottom of the
board to slide down a rail or pole. To do a boardslide, roll
towards the object you wish to rail with your back towards it.
Then ollie, twisting yourself and the board 90 degrees, so you're
facing forward. The middle of the board will land on the pole,
and you'll slide down. As with the grind, try building a small
railslide to practise with.
The Noseslide
difficulty = 5
A noseslide is when you slide forward on a rail with only your
nose. To do a nose slide, roll up to a rail as you would a
boardslide, but this time don't ollie over the rail, stop when
the nose is over it. Then land on the rail with your nose and
slide away!
The Tailslide
difficulty = 7
A tailslide is when you slide forward on a rail with only your
tail. To do a noseslide, roll up to the rail, facing it. Then do
a front side 180 so you're facing forward. Try to get the tail
over the rail. Land on the rail with the tail and slide down,
applying pressure to the tail.
The Nollie
difficulty = 4
The Nollie is when you ollie the opposite way. Ollie with your
nose. Slide the opposite foot forward. If you're regular footed,
then kick with the left foot and slide the right.(The opposite
for goofys).Confusing? Tough.
The 360 Flip
difficulty = 7
The 360 flip is then the board does a 360 shove-it with a
kickflip. It's very difficult. Get your feet in a 360 shove-it
position. Be prepared to spin it HARD. Once you ollie, spin the
board and do a kickflip motion with your front foot at the same
time. It's tough, so practise.
The Hardflip
difficulty = 7
The hardflip is hard. Here's how it goes: Roll along at a decent
speed. Pop a big old ollie. Now's the tricky part. You want the
nose of the board to go striaght up, like an impossible. But once
the board is completely vertical, you want it to rotate so it
comes back down with the wheels down, not up. It's like an
impossible, but the board doesn't flip a full time. I suggest
switching stance when you do it: that way it flips easier. Try
this trick off loading docks and big stairs, wimp.
The Impossible
difficulty = 8
The Impossible is impossible. However, it can be done. First off,
don't try this on flat ground; you'll never do it. Try it off
stairs or a loading dock or anything with height. Now, roll with
moderate speed with your front foot very close to your back foot.
Pop off with the back foot, and allow the board to go vertical.
Now, with your front foot still close to the tail,
"swing" the tail forward, causing the board to flip.
Kick with the front foot so the tail goes forward and the nose
swings down. There's no real way to explain this with words,
you'll have to experiment. Once the board begins it's flip,
spread your legs (very deadly, but essential) and hope the board
makes a full flip around. Catch the nose with your front foot,
land, roll away. Recieve mad applause and cheers from spectators.
The Kastalarial
difficulty = 4
A Kastalarial (pronounced cast-ah-lair-e-ul) is a rad trick that
originiated in Northern Virginia. It's mainly a bank trick, but
it can be done on flat ground. You roll along with moderate
speed, knees bent. Then you pop a big shove-it. Here's the
important part: when you pop the shove-it, you rotate your body
180 degrees in the opposite way! So you pop a shove it, and do a
frontside 180 with your body. Your body simply spins the opposide
way the board is. This looks great on banks, where you end up
riding down the bank the same way you rode up! You can also do a
Kastalarial with a 180 kickflip or 180 heelflip. All you have to
do is spin your body the opposite way the board is spinning!!
*NOTE: THIS IS NOT A BIG SPIN. When you do a big spin, you rotate your body WITH the board, spinning the same way. A Kastalarial is when you spin your body the OPPOSITE way. Get it straight!
